Dear Parent and Student:
Welcome to Sidney Public Schools. Parents, Teachers and Students all have a critical role in the learning process and I’m safe in saying that effective teaching and learning cannot happen in the absence of rules and procedures. Rules and procedures function like traffic signals and allow for the smooth operation of classrooms and schools. Think about driving through a city that has no traffic signals—chaos would soon be the order of the day complete with accidents and traffic jams.
The information provided in each school’s handbook falls into several categories—expectations for student behavior, procedures for absences or trips, course scheduling, emergency procedures, and a host of other information necessary for effective teaching and learning and the day-to-day operations of each school. Much of the information is condensed and derived from school board policy, state accreditation standards, and state and federal law. Handbooks are not intended to be inclusive of every specific detail or rule but do provide a complete overview of those rules and procedures for each school based on the grade levels served.
The cornerstone to student success each year is Parent-School Communications. As a rule of thumb, when you have a question about any rule or procedure in any handbook, please contact your student’s teacher or building principal. Have a great school year.
Sincerely,
Daniel Farr, Ed.D.
